The Wedding Ring market is changing. Recently Palladium rings, once popular around the time of WWII, made a resurgence as a popular material for a wedding ring and then the price skyrocketed, along with other precious metals.
One material that has remained stable for wedding rings for over 20 years is Titanium, both in the UK and the USA. In fact, this material is now being increasingly used in the creation of jewellery due to its lightness, strength and durability.

Zirconium, often confused with it's sister metal Titanium, is a refractive metal typically used in industrial applications and more recently, jewellery.
It's natural colour is similar to Titanium but then, by heating it, a black, ceramic like Zirconium oxide layer is naturally formed.
It has a soft, silky feel in its polished black condition similar to how a mug would feel when you touch it. The insides of our rings are polished this way with a comfort (curved) fit as standard and then we add different textures to the outside of the ring which could be satin, polished, hammered or coarse linished.

How do I get a good fingerprint?
Fingerprint jewellery
Various fingerprint kits are available to buy online that give excellent results and the clearer the print supplied, the better the laser engraved result on your fingerprint jewellery will be.
Due to the fineness of a child's print, these are probably the ones that need the greatest attention to detail. Using a good quality, smooth paper can improve the result
and best results, both for children and adults, are usually found using glossy photographic paper.
If we determine that the print is unsuitable or requires too much work to make usable, we would have to request that better prints are obtained, or charge extra to clean them up (if possible).
A visual examination of the print before sending to us will save having to resubmit new prints and a lot of time, examples of good and bad prints are shown below.

How to Measure Ring Size
On the face of it, sizing a finger should be a fairly simple task. However, with the introduction in recent years of the comfort fit, which is the curved interior of a ring, and the fact that a ring stick can be measured 3 different ways by a jeweller (leading edge, centre, back edge), the process can be plagued with errors.
Ideally, the gauge used to measure a finger should be an exact replica of the ring being purchased i.e. have either a straight bore or a comfort fit bore and be the same width. There are variations to the comfort fit that can upset the apple cart in as much as the radius of the fit can be quite shallow, heavily domed or anything in between, hence the reason to use a gauge that has the same profile as the ring being bought.

Can Titanium rings be cut off in an emergency?
There seems to be a lot of myths and legends concerning this topic so I will try to put the record straight. Titanium is a material that is not particularly hard but is very strong and has a high tensile strength. Many people are unsure as to the difference between hardness and tensile strength and often get them confused. Let us consider diamond, the hardest material currently known to man. If you had a rod of diamond that was 25mm in diameter and 1 metre long, you wouldn't easily scratch it or mark it but if you try to bend it over your knee, you would probably find that it would snap like a carrot.

What is Laser Engraving?
A laser, which is an acronym of Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, is a highly focused controlled beam of single colour light and can be used either to discolour the surface of a component or to vaporise material by laser ablation to produce a deep engraving. The laser parameters and position can be precisely controlled to provide high contrast marks in the form of barcodes, data matrix codes and logo graphics. If a surface is painted or anodised then the laser can be used to precisely remove the surface to give a contrast. By choosing a contrasting colour translucent substrate, a graphic can be backlit for night and day readability for example on car dashboards and aircraft cockpit controls.
What materials can be marked?
All metals (both precious and non-precious), most plastics, glass and many ceramics can be marked or etched.
